Each Post is organized into up to three or more subordinate organizations, Post 38 has Veterans, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of Amvets. 

VETERANS

AMVETS  is organized into National Headquarters, Districts, and Departments.  Each state is a Department.  Post 38 is a Post within the West Virginia Department.  The Post was organized and chartered in 1988 when a group of veterans purchased its building from the owner, H. Kenneth Cushwa.  The Post was incorporated as a corporation, AMVETS Post 38 of Berkeley County at that time.  The building was dedicated to H. Kenneth Cushwa on May 16, 2015.

AMVETS (American Veterans) is the nation’s most inclusive Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization, representing the interests of 20 million veterans. AMVETS is open to and fighting for all who honorably served in the United States military, including the Reserve and Guard. With more than 250,000 members nationwide, we are veterans serving veterans.

AMVETS Mission Statement: To enhance and safeguard the entitlements for all American Veterans who have served honorably and to improve the quality of life for them, their families, and the communities where they live through leadership, advocacy and services.

AMVETS Charities participates in the Combined Federal Campaign through the Military, Veterans and Patriotic Services Organizations of America federation. Our Combined Federal Campaign number is 10519.

As one of America’s leading veterans service organizations for more than 75 years, AMVETS has a proud history of assisting veterans and sponsoring numerous programs that serve our country and its citizens. Membership in AMVETS is open to anyone who honorably served, or currently serving, in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and Reserves.

LADIES AUXILIARY

The Ladies Auxiliary is a subordinate organization to Post 38.  Membership in AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is open to the mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters of AMVETS and female veterans who are currently serving or who have honorably served in the Armed Forces of the United States, including the National Guard and Reserve components, anytime after September 15, 1940.

For more than 50 years AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary has served veterans and their communities through programs such as John Tracy Clinic (for hearing, impaired and deaf children ages 18 months to 5 years); PAWS With a Cause (who trains Assistance Dogs for people with disabilities); Scholarships; St. Jude’s Hospital for Children, Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services programs (VAVS) and Freedom’s Foundation just to mention a few.

A network of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary members across the country provides a teamwork of support for local volunteers. Volunteering is the heart of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. Volunteer services are recognized through an extensive awards program both on the department and national level.

SONS OF AMVETS

Squadron 38 of the Sons of AMVETS is a subordinate organization to Post 38.  Sons of AMVETS is a nationwide service organization comprised of male descendants of American Veterans (AMVETS). As part of the AMVETS family we are united in service and dedicated to improve quality of life, advocate legislation for increased benefits and care, provide and support charitable assistance to veterans, their families, and community.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Eligibility for membership in the Sons of AMVETS shall be limited to all male descendants, grandsons, adopted sons and stepsons, fathers, husbands, widowers, and brothers of members of AMVETS and the deceased members of AMVETS, or the personnel who died and would have been eligible for membership in the parent organization, and are at least eighteen (18) years of age and is not eligible for membership in the parent organization. This is not to include in-laws of any type.
